History, myths and legends, breath-taking vistas, relaxation and sport.
plays an important role in the history of Czech nation, which is clearly noticeable thanks to its unique genius loci. Vyšehrad is first mentioned more than 5000 years ago when the area was inhabited by people of the Funnelbeaker culture. Those people clearly knew about the beautiful natural views of Prague even back then
The gate of Vyšehrad castle is only 200 m
away from our hotel and from its ramparts you can enjoy beautiful vistas basically in every direction. The river Vltava runs deepest right under the Vyšehrad cliff and on its base you can drink from the same spring our ancestors used. In those times the spring supplied the castle and later also the bastion with drinking water.
According to the most famous Czech myth it was here where knight Horymír jumped from the rampart to escape imprisonment by prince Křesomysl. About to be executed, Horymír asked for one last favour – to ride his horse Šemík for the last time; he then steered Šemík to jump over the ramparts into Vltava river. By this heroic jump Šemík saved Horymír’s life. Brave Šemík then carried Horymír to his home in Neumětely, dying shortly thereafter due to severe wounds caused by the jump.
Vyšehrad has rich cultural history as well as mythology not only your children will fall in love with. Without a doubt it is best to first read a bit about Vyšehrad and then visit the sites where those amazing stories took place.
Sport and Leisure
Aside from intriguing stories Vyšehrad also offers wide possibilities to relax in a vast park, tennis courts, jogging routes, meadows suitable for practicing yoga and also a children playground – also Czech mythology themed, of course.
